- Design a T-shirt that makes a statement. Using fabric dye, turn plain white T-shirts into tie-dyed T-shirts. Make the shirts using your favorite colors, school colors or the colors of your favorite sports teams. Stencils are an easy way to turn plain T-shirts into team shirts. Use fabric paint to stencil on a pattern, team name, logo or player's name onto the front or back of the shirt. Or use fabric paint to cover your shirt with handprints. Make a T-shirt pretty by adding embellishments. With the aid of fabric glue, add ribbon, buttons or rhinestones.
- If you have way too many T-shirts in your closet, but you can't bear to part with them, turn them into T-shirt pillows. Cut a square containing the T-shirt's logo out of the front, a square the same size out of the back, then stitch the pieces together, leaving a hole. Stuff the hole with stuffing, sew up the hole and you have a pillow. Or make a rectangular pillow by cutting off the top to get rid of the neck hole and the sleeves. Sew the top, the bottom and one arm hole. Stuff it and stitch up the final hole. Use your T-shirt pillow as a decorative throw pillow on your couch or bed.
- People buy T-shirts when they go on vacation, to a concert or participate in a charity event. You collect shirts from high school, college, teams and clubs. Other T-shirts hold good memories for you, such as the shirt you were wearing when you met your significant other. Instead of throwing these T-shirts out or having them clutter your closet, turn them into a quilt by cutting out the logos and sewing them together. The quilt can chronicle your high school sports career, your favorite team, all the places you've traveled or all the concerts you've attended. Parents can turn their children's outgrown T-shirts into a quilt as a keepsake.
- Turn old T-shirts into artwork by framing them and displaying them throughout your home. This works great for T-shirts signed by band members, actors, athletes or other famous people. All you need to do is iron the T-shirt, then place it in a frame. Showcase the front or back of the shirt. You can also frame graphic T-shirts with funny quotes or pictures on them. Framed T-shirts work great as gifts as well. Have an entire class sign a school T-shirt, frame it and give it to the teacher at the end of the year. Youngsters on a sports team can do the same thing for their coach.
