LED Grid Lights - the ideal replacement for Fluorescent Troffers

Fluorescent tube troffer lights are often used in offices. These have a small profile and when installed in a recessed cavity in suspended ceilings these can be effectively shielded from view. The purpose of the optics of a troffer is to redirect light emanating from the light source in a manner that most of the light is indirect and there is minimal glare.
What is an LED grid light?
An LED grid light consists of several high power LEDs arranged in a square or rectangular grid. Hence the name, "LED Grid Light". Each high power LED consumes 1 Watt of electricity and has high luminous output around 75 lumens per watt. An LED grid light is especially designed to dissipate heat and ensure that the lights function optimally.
Why use grid lights?
A natural question arises. Instead of using LED grid lights why can't you retrofit LED tube lights in existing troffer lights that are used in offices, homes and classrooms alike? The reason is heat dissipation. For a long time, troffer lights were the preserve of fluorescent tubes. LED lights are more efficient than fluorescent tubes and have several other advantages like long life span and minimal maintenance. However, LED lights are particularly susceptible to high temperature. The design of the troffer light installed in certain properties may make it difficult to install LED tubes because of issues with adequate thermal management. This heat, if not dissipated properly, can lead to overheating and suboptimal performance of LEDs.
Why choose energy efficient lights?
Offices all over the world are looking at cutting costs. Energy and labor costs are often the first cost items to receive the attention of the finance department. The story is the same everywhere. Schools need to channelize their resources in providing high quality education, government offices need to cut costs and businesspersons want better returns.
Often it is possible to avid the heart burn of laying off loyal workers and still improve returns by choosing energy efficiency strategies. Federal grants can be accessed for energy efficiency projects. The remaining investments can be offset against tax deductions available to improve energy efficiency or can be recouped in a few years. In business, when best practices are quickly copied and everyone is trying his best to be on the edge of the productivity frontier, energy efficient LED lights are quickly becoming necessary to retain the competitive edge.
In schools and homes, besides energy efficiency another issue attains importance – the safety of young children, pets and senior citizens. Clearly when it comes to safety of our loved ones any other lighting is a compromise. Mercury laced fluorescent lights and energy hogging incandescent do not meet the criteria of creating a healthy and safe learning environment for children.  If it is not about the danger of installing mercury-filled lights around active children, it is about the possibility of injury from glass shards. Schools managements also value the hum and flicker free light from an LED device. Vibration and shock resistant LED grid lights make repeated visits from maintenance crew redundant and are the ideal lighting choice.
