City Island (cityislandchamber.org) is the Bronx's own historic seaport town, filled with art galleries, gift shops and restaurants. It can be reached by crossing over the City Island Bridge, by car or on the BX29 bus, from Pelham Bay Park. City Island Avenue is lined with seafood restaurants, many of which are open year-round. If you're visiting in late spring, summer or early fall, the views along the Long Island Sound, East River and New York Harbor are best enjoyed from a sunset cruise or party boat. If you're a history buff or into the sport of sailing, check out the City Island Nautical Museum. The Nautical Room is filled with photos and memorabilia showing City Island's history as a shipbuilding community. - Black-eyed Susans grow in the gardens at Wave Hill.Jupiterimages/Photos.com/Getty Images
Wave Hill (wavehill.org) is a 28-acre garden and cultural center located in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. A free shuttle van travels between Wave Hill and the #1 subway station at West 242nd Street. Visitors stroll along winding stone paths lined with billowing wild flowers from around the world in the Wild Flower Garden. Or hike along hilly trails through Wave Hill's many other gardens. As the elevation changes, admire the view of the Hudson River and Palisades from one of the many vistas along the trails. Sunset views can be enjoyed sitting outside the Wave Hill Café. If it's cold, stop in one of the three glass houses in the Conservatory, where tropical plants bloom in winter. - All types of Italian meats can be found in the butchers and markets on Arthur Avenue.Ryan McVay/Digital Vision/Getty Images
