Remedy for Lawn Fairy Rings

    Clean It Up

    • The only way to completely eradicate the fungus causing the fairy rings is to remove all contaminated soil. Dig out an area at least 1 foot beyond the ring and 1 foot deep. Do not let the excavated soil contact the grass or soil in any other part of the lawn. Work with tarps or plastic on the ground and shovel the soil directly into a truck. Dispose of the soil at a dump or other location not concerned with fungal contamination.

    Water and Fertilize

    • Apply enough water and nitrogen-based fertilizer so all the grass does as well as the area effected by the fungus. Apply the water using probe, sometimes called a root feeder, attached to a hose and placed about 20 inches deep. This deposits the water and nutrients where it has the greatest effect on the grass.
