Inspirational sayings can be found in many places: books of quotations, online ezines, websites, plays - you might find a phrase that touches you in any of these places.
The most important thing is to find something that motivates, encourages or touches your heart.
There is much to be said for a 'motto' - something that you live by or helps to fashion your life's mission.
For me, I have chosen a phrase that comes from my study of the biblical story of Nehemiah.
I find many inspirational sayings within the chapters of this book.
Nehemiah's job was to rebuild a wall.
He received the 'go ahead' from the king and gathered a group together to help him and set about performing the actual work of rebuilding a wall that stood in disrepair.
Not everyone was pleased to see the work getting done.
So a group of spiritual leaders of Nehemiah's day set out to draw him away from the job and ambush him.
No matter how they presented their requests to him, Nehemiah did not leave the work at hand.
My life's motto arose out of this story.
"Keep your eye on the wall.
" One of the most inspirational sayings I know.
A simple thought; one that calls for focus and a mission that is not sidetracked by outside issues.
It is important to maintain a sense of purpose in life - and this is mine.
"Keep your eye on the wall" is a way that helps me to stay on track whether working on my homework, my day job or my writing.
I make a list of those things that need to be done each morning and tick them off one at a time until they are done.
For me, this works.
Focus.
Focus.
Focus.
