- 1). Select only one or two patterned tropical fabrics. If one is a particularly bright fabric, you may want to stick with this as your only choice, or else select a more muted tropical fabric to complement it.
- 2). Create a color palette around your tropical fabric. If you selected a pattern with palm trees, you may be working with greens, beiges and browns. If your piece is covered in bright tropical flowers, select one or two of the brighter colors to use as accents, and pick up on a muted color in the background of the pattern to balance these out.
- 3). Paint the walls of the room with a natural shade, such as tan or pale green. Brighter greens and blues can be incorporated but should be used sparingly on such a large surface.
- 4). Select upholstered furniture that picks up another shade of your color palette. Continue to avoid anything too bright or jarring.
- 5). Use your tropical fabric for accent pieces, it can be used in a tapestry style wall hanging, made into throw pillows, placemats, or a tablecloth, or even wrapped tightly around a blank canvas and framed.
- 6). Add other accent pieces around the room that pick up on the brighter hues of your palette. Incorporate these tropical colors in lamps, artwork, rugs and throws to bring the room together.
