- 1). Avoid unnecessary spending ~ One of the easier ways to save money is to not spend on unnecessary things. Many of us buy coffee, lunch, cigarettes, etc. on a daily basis. These habits can be quite expensive. A large coffee from Starbucks can easily add up to $100/month. Although there is nothing wrong with spending money occasionally, things that we do everyday should be more cost efficient. Taking your lunch to work and carrying your own coffee every morning can add up to a significant savings. Just by taking the time to see what you are spending your money on and the changes you can make can be quite rewarding when you start to see how much money you save.

Clean out your house ~ Many people de-clutter once a year and donate unwanted items to their choice of charity. Even though this is very considerate, why not sell your stuff for some much needed cash. I have sold so many things on Craigslist.org. This is probably the easiest way to get rid of stuff you no longer need or want. You don't have to deliver anything if you request people to pick up the items. Another way to sell things online is through eBay. You might be able to earn more money this way, but you will be responsible for shipping the items to your buyers.

Sign up for direct deposit ~ Many companies offer direct deposit to their employees. If your pay check is directly deposited into your savings, you're less likely to spend all of your money. Try to make a weekly budget and transfer that amount from your savings to your checking. This way, you will have money in your savings and you will have a set amount that you can use for expenses. This will also improve your spending habits since will only have the money in your wallet and will see how much is left so you don't spend it all before your next check.
