There are plenty of people who would never even consider making the effort to visit an art gallery.
I know that this is the case because I've heard plenty of people express this opinion over the years.
I think that it's a very sad state of affairs.
Some believe that the experience would be disappointing and that they simply would not enjoy the visit.
This is a conclusion that may well be at adds with reality, but the problem is that it can be extremely difficult to convince people that there is value in changing their approach.
Although galleries can be vibrant and eye-opening places, some people imagine them to be dull.
There may also be a feeling that ordinary people are not welcome within the confines of leading galleries.
Once again, I would argue that this is not a reflection of the reality of the situation.
In part, the problem here can be seen to stem from the fact that famous paintings and artworks tend to change hands for a lot of money.
If you need to be incredibly wealthy to buy such pieces, then it should come as no surprise that many conclude that you also need to be rich to appreciate what is going on.
But the truth is that most artworks were not designed to be enjoyed by the rich and famous.
More often, in fact, they were created to be enjoyed by all.
With many galleries offering free admission, there's a stark contrast here between the reality and the imagined situation.
But what about the problem of feeling that you don't have enough knowledge? There may be a suggestion that you will find yourself mixing with those who know more about individual artworks.
This is an inevitable situation that occurs in most walks of life, but there does seem to be a specific fear relating to this situation cropping up in art galleries.
Once again, it's easy to produce an image of how things might look.
You will find yourself entering a conversation with someone who knows a lot more and you may feel a little out of place.
Does it really matter? I actually enjoy learning from others and I'm always happy to admit that someone else knows more than me about a particular topic of conversation.
I see this as being an opportunity, rather than an obvious challenge.
It's also worth remembering that art is very personal, meaning that we can each express opinions, without saying anything that is incorrect.
If you like a particular painting, for instance, then it is enough to be able to admire it.
You don't need to justify your feelings to others.
Rather than being frightened of entering galleries, try to make room in your life for art.
By doing so, you'll add a whole new layer to life.
