Gathering Your Supplies to Make Baby Shower Candy

Gathering Your Supplies to Make Baby Shower Candy

Updated May 11, 2013.

These cute little baby shower candies are great baby shower favors or something to decorate tables with for your upcoming baby shower. They are very easily done and can even be made well ahead of time and stored until you are ready to serve them.
The first thing that you need to do is to decide what baby shower theme you will have for your gathering. You can go with a traditional baby shower theme and choose candy molds in shapes like baby rattles, bassinet, baby carriage, baby bottles, etc.

For these you might use traditional pink or blue and white. If you choose to go with something not as baby themed, you could make these in greens, yellows, whatever color and choose items like flowers, hearts or simply candy swirls.

Here are the supplies you will need to start:
  • Candy molds of your choice
  • Colored candies for melting
  • Something to melt the candies in like a glass bowl

Now it's time to wash your hands and get going!

Melt the Candy

Updated May 11, 2013.

After you've washed your hands you will place your candies in something to melt them. I used candies in glass dishes. You can also use disposable cake decorating bags. The bags are easier to use but cost money. The glass containers are microwave safe but take a bit more thought and care when filling the molds.
Microwave the candies and medium heat for 30 seconds at a time, stirring in between. Remember that microwave times may vary.

So watch your candies closely.

If you do not have a microwave, you can use the double boiler method.

Using the Melted Candy

The melted candies will be used to fill the molds and make the candies. I'd recommend melting the candies in small batches to prevent waste. It does harden back fairly quickly. Just pop it in the microwave if that happens.

Fill the Baby Shower Candy Molds

Updated May 11, 2013.

Decide which molds you wish to use. Start by washing them out. Even if they are new you should wash them. If they have been in your cabinet awhile then you will want to wash them for dust. Fill them from top to bottom and left to right to prevent yourself from messing up the other molds previously filled.

Preventing Edges and Bubbles in Your Candy

Updated May 11, 2013.

When you are done filling the molds, lightly tap the mold on the table several times to knock the bubbles out. This will prevent there from being holes in your candy. You should also take care to not over fill each mold or you will have edges on your candies. These can be removed but not easily, so just do yourself the favor and prevent them. This is where using a decorating bag is handy for beginners it can help prevent overfilling.

Refrigerate the Candy Molds

Updated May 11, 2013.

When you are done filling the candy molds, place them level in the refrigerator. They will need to stay here for at least an hour. Staying there longer is not a problem.

Updated May 11, 2013.

To remove the candy from the molds, simply twist the mold over a clean plate or towel to catch the candies as they fall. You may need to help pop a few of the more stubborn candies from their resting spot.

Once the candies are out, you can place them into baby shower favors bags or boxes or simply place them around the tables and food for decorative effects. These tasty treats are favorites at any baby shower!
