- 1). Unplug your Kenmore washing machine power cord from the wall outlet. Pull off the pieces of trim on each side of the control console. The trim snaps over each end of the console. Grab the trim from the upper rear and pull the trim forward to disconnect from the console.
- 2). Find the screws on the bottom of each end of the control console that fasten the console to the top of the washer. Turn the screws counter-clockwise with a Phillips head screwdriver and remove them from the console. Tilt the front of the control console back toward the rear wall where the console will rest on two hinges.
- 3). Locate the wiring harness on the top rear center of the washer that connects to the door switch wiring plug. Pull the wiring harness away from the door switch with your fingers. Place the blade end of a flathead screwdriver into each of the brass clips that secure the washer to the rear panel. Push the screwdriver handle toward the rear of the washer to pry the clips out of the top of the washer.
- 4). Grab the washer cabinet on both sides with your hands. Tilt the rear of the cabinet up slightly and lift the cabinet away from the base of the washer. Your Kenmore is now fully open and ready for testing and repairs.
