- Scenic cabin getaways are just one of the romantic vacations the north Georgia Mountains offer.log cabin image by Juliette Speers from Fotolia.com
Georgia is known for the metro Atlanta area, but the scenic mountains of north Georgia deserve just as much attention. The Blue Ridge Mountains offer couples relaxing cabin stays as well as the adventure of whitewater rafting. And it's all just a few hours from one of America's most distinctive cities. - This tiny getaway is styled to look like a small German town. Go for Oktoberfest (which stretches for more than a month) or for the cabins and tubing on the nearby Chattahoochee River. The downtown area features shops like the Scandinavian Import Company and German restaurants like the Edelweiss German Inn. Every year, the town sponsors a 10km run/walk called a Volksmarch. The town is also popular for its annual Christmas parade and local hot air ballooning companies.

helenga.org - Northern Georgia's Wine Highway features nine wineries throughout the North Georgia Mountains area. The annual Wine Highway Weekend offers a trip through seven of the wineries for tastings, tours and drawings to win free weekends at the wineries. If traveling around half the state seems too taxing, take a weekend in Dahlonega, Georgia, which features three of the state's vineyards. The nonprofit Winegrowers Association of Georgia has put together a site to make a decision on which winery is best for you simpler.
