- 1). Stand by the tee just as you would to tee off. Look at your feet and make sure they are both even -- shoulder-width apart and parallel to the ball -- and an equal distance from the tee; ideally, the distance does not matter as long as they are the same. If your back foot is too close to the front foot, this is causing the hook.
- 2). Practice swinging while using the stance you adopted in Step 1, but use only about three-quarter power to get used to the feel.
- 3). Grab your 6 iron and stand in front of your tee with the new stance. Grip the club below the grip on the metal shaft of the club.
- 4). Take a few practice swings and examine your hand position on each swing. This drill helps you to keep your hands facing the target so that they do not twist at impact and cause a hook. Hooks are caused by both foot position and improper grip.
- 5). Place a ball on your tee and swing using your new stance and grip until you no longer hook. You can make adjustments to your foot positioning or how tight you grip the club until it works for you. When you have the technique down, you can move your hands back to the grip of the club and try again.
