How to Change the Oil in a Troy-Bilt Riding Mower

    • 1). Start the engine. Run the mower for three to four minutes to warm up the oil. Turn off the engine.

    • 2). Place a drain pan under the oil drain plug. Unscrew the drain plug with the socket wrench. The drain plug is located on the bottom of the engine. Allow the oil to drain completely.

    • 3). Replace the drain plug. Tighten the plug with the socket wrench.

    • 4). Unscrew and remove the oil crankcase fill cap. This cap is located next to the oil level dipstick.

    • 5). Pour new oil into the crankcase. Most Troy-Bilt riding mowers require 1.5 quarts of oil. Check your owner's manual for the appropriate amount and type of oil.
