- 1). Take steps to get your husband and neighbor to talk. It is helpful to first discuss with your neighbor's spouse how you will approach the matter. Enlist the help of a common friend of your husband and neighbor. Find a suitable place for them to meet. Avoid public venues where either of them can easily storm off if they do not want to confront their issue. You can invite your neighbor and his spouse, along with the friend, over for lunch or dinner when your husband is at home.
- 2). Keep the mood light during the meal. Talk about current events or any new developments in your neighborhood. Try to engage both your husband and your neighbor in the conversation by recalling past events and pitching questions to them. The presence of your neighbor's spouse and the friend is beneficial as you can all engage in normal conversations with each other to lighten any tension in the room.
- 3). Bring up the subject of the disagreement. Give your opinion on how their disagreement is affecting your family life, or describe notable changes in your husband since their fallout. Invite your neighbor's spouse and the friend to also chip in and give their opinions. Share your ideas on how to handle the situation and any possible solution to their problem. Encourage them to talk about their issue and avoid volatile confrontations. Let them talk about the issue rationally.
- 4). Leave the room to give them privacy to talk about their disagreement. It may be uncomfortable for your husband and neighbor to talk about their problem in the presence of their spouses. However, their friend can stay with them and act as a mediator. Ensure that by the end of the day, a truce has been reached between your neighbor and your husband.
- 5). Plan an activity together with your husband, the neighbor, and the neighbor's spouse, preferably one that you previously used to engage in together. This can assist in clearing the awkwardness of the earlier disagreement and helping them to settle back into the previous activities that your husband and neighbor used to share.
