- 1). Check to see if your antivirus software is reacting with the firewall. In the help section of your antivirus (launch the program and click the "Help" tab) it should say whether you need to turn off your firewall. A firewall might counteract the antivirus software.
- 2). Check the firewall settings. Go to the Control Panel and select "Firewall." Click "On" for the firewall if unexpected programs are accessing your computer and your antivirus software doesn't need the option turned off.
- 3). Add exceptions to your firewall by clicking the "Exceptions" tab, then select "Add a Program" and select the program you want to allow free access to the Internet. If the program isn't on the exceptions list it can't load onto the Internet.
- 4). Click "OK" after any changes you make to your computer's firewall settings.
