Who is Carson Daly? A brief biography on the talk show host



Carson Daly was Born …:

… on June 22, 1873, in Santa Monica, Calif., to dancer and actress Pattie Caruso Daly and his late father, J.D. Daly.

Growing up with Carson:

Carson roamed the hallways of Santa Monica High School, dreaming of one day being a police officer. After graduation, he attended Loyola Marymount University on a golf scholarship. He dropped out after year. He’d become a successful local deejay.

Carson’s First Job & The Early Years:

Before he was 21, Carson was a deejay at KITS Live 105 in San Francisco. He left a year later for KOME in San Jose to take over the station’s afternoon drive time. A year after that, and Carson was working at world renowned KROQ in Los Angeles.

His success in radio led to his eventual success as a video jockey (veejay) on MTV. His stint as host of Total Request Live led to that show’s surge in popularity and pop culture influence. It also attracted the attention of the National Broadcasting Company.

Becoming a Talk Show Host:

Carson was instrumental in the growing success of MTV’s Total Request Live, which led to his eventual leap to broadcast television and his own talk show Last Call with Carson Daly on NBC. His show took over the time slot originally occupied by [i[Later with Bob Costas and Later with Greg Kinnear.

What Does the Future Hold?:

Through his own company, Carson Daly Productions, Carson has branched out into web entertainment He sees his venture as the next frontier in providing interesting visual entertainment, and hopes to be on the cutting edge of both the technology and the content.

  • Used the scintillating stage name “The Porcelain Dream” while a deejay.
  • Is fictionally cited as the karmic inspiration to sit-com character Earl Hickey (from My Name is Earl).
  • Was once engaged to actress and bad girl Tara Reid. Also dated Ghost Whisperer’s Jennifer Love Hewitt.
  • The talk show host attended a year at Loyola on a golf scholarship, and would later find himself playing in celebrity tournaments alongside Tiger Woods.
  • Is on the short-list of replacements for Conan O’Brien, when Conan moves to The Tonight Show in 2009.
