- 1). Coat a large, hard pretzel or bagel with peanut butter.
- 2). Pour sunflower seeds onto a plate, and dip both sides of the pretzel or bagel into the seeds. The seeds will stick to the peanut butter.
- 3). Thread string through one of the pretzel or bagel holes, and tie it to a tree branch.
- 1). Cut a squash, gourd, melon or citrus fruit in half, and hollow it out.
- 2). Punch two or four holes on opposite sides of the shell with a hammer and nail.
- 3). Thread string into these holes. You use the string to hang the feeder onto a tree branch.
- 4). Make some suet to place in your feeder: Melt ½ cup of peanut butter and ½ cup of lard in a saucepan, and stir in 1 cup of quick oats, 1 cup of cornmeal, ½ cup of flour, ¼ cup of sugar and ¾ cup of bird seed.
- 5). Pour your suet into the bird feeder's bowl.
- 6). Hang the feeder on a tree branch, or store the feeder in the refrigerator until ready to use.
- 1). Measure and mark a spot 4 inches up from the bottom of the plastic bottle. Turn the bottle 90 degrees, and measure and mark another spot 2 inches up from the bottom.
- 2). Make a slit in these markings with a craft knife. Cut a 1-inch diameter circle on the opposite sides of both slits.
- 3). Thread a wooden spoon handle into one circle, through the slit on the opposite side so the head of the spoon rests under the circle. Repeat this process with a second wooden spoon and the other circle.
- 4). Pour bird seed into the mouth of the bottle.
- 5). Screw an eye screw into the bottle cap. Thread some string into the eye, and hang the bird feeder on a tree branch.
