Business Networking - Methods and Techniques of Professional Networking

In my previous articles I explained how to set up a business plan, get a domain and the importance of a logo and color for your website.
Just remember to print your new business name and logo on a large number of business cards.
You'll need these now.
Online Tools Now where do you get the customers? To start, you need to register with all the main search engines, and select a provider of analytical tools; I use Google Web Master Tools and Analytics.
You need to know where you are going, where you have been and what is working (or not working).
Think of the many places you go to find out about a specific subject, or hear about a product or service.
You now need to think about how you can spread the word about your new company for as little as possible, (unless you have an unlimited budget)! The best strategy for getting customers is social interaction online and in person.
Groups, Organizations & Clubs Join local groups, chambers and organizations where you will be able to network with other business owners.
Be ready to give out your business card to everyone.
Don't push yourself upon others, however you want to meet people and you need to listen to what they have to say.
If you want someone to remember you, be patient, attentive and repeat something they have said back to them (to show you were really paying attention).
These networking events can turn out to be a future referral.
If you meet someone in need of your services, offer them a free consultation.
It is to their advantage (and yours) to spend 30 minutes to 1 hour (your choice) going over the advantages of a new or updated website to help their business grow.
Be realistic, don't just join these organizations to get something only for your business, you have to give something as well.
If you join an organization, be sure to sponsor an event, or be on a committee.
Don't over-extend yourself, but you need to show you can be a team player.
Social interaction with a number of local businesses will begin to get your name and your reputation out to others.
Online Social Networking It goes without saying, but you should join a number of social networks.
You can start slowly with Twitter.
Join and subscribe to a number of your competitors.
Watch what they are saying, how they interact and check out how many people they have following them.
You need to be able to offer something to others.
If you know what you are doing, you should be able to write an article for every week of the year.
Yes this takes time, but it will be worth it in the long run.
In Twitter just give a teaser line about your article and a link back to your website article or blog.
Don't just advertise here.
You need to become a part of the community.
This is also where people in other businesses will come to know you.
Offer free advice not only about your business but on your personal life.
Do you volunteer? Do you donate time or money to specific charities? Let people know.
If you have employees, say a little about their goals and achievements.
Give information on anything so people can relate to you, your employees and your business.
