How to Cover Your Face in a Mummy Sleeping Bag

    • 1). Slide into the bag and move the drawstrings to a position where you can grip them easily by a hand inside the bag. Reach down and pull the zipper up all the way. Get the zipper all the way up to prevent any gaps in the insulation.

    • 2). Push your head into the loose head closure at the top of the mummy bag. Confirm that the shoulder buffles are around the neck and above the shoulders. Pull the head drawstring as tight as possible to snug it up to the head. Push the string tab to set the head closure into position.

    • 3). Pull the shoulder buffle string to seal the space around the neck and shoulders. The result is the mummy bag tight around most of the head and face, but with a space for the nose and mouth to breathe outside the bag.

    • 4). Put a full-face balaclava on to augment the facial covering if Steps 1-3 do not keep you warm enough. Be sure your nose and a small portion of the mouth are uncovered so no moisture accumulates next to the skin or in the sleeping bag.
