How to Neutralize Bleach Smell

    • 1). Open doors and windows, and run fans for several hours to fill the room with fresh air. Place fans in the opened windows so the fans suck the bleach odor out of the room.

    • 2). Run a HEPA air purifier in the room for 24 hours. The HEPA filter will trap tiny particles and cleanse the air.

    • 3). Blot spilled bleach with paper towels. Put the paper towels in a plastic bag, and seal the bag. Place the bag in an outside trash can.

    • 4). Hold clothing and fabric items under cool, running water to flush spilled bleach out of the fibers.

    • 5). Mist carpets and upholstery with white vinegar to remove bleach odors. As the vinegar dries, it will eliminate the chemical odor. Alternatively, cover the area with baking soda, and let it sit for several hours before you remove it with a vacuum cleaner.

    • 6). Fill a pot with water. Add cinnamon, cloves or lemon wedges. Place the pot on the stove set to medium heat. Let the water simmer. The mixture will fill the air with a pleasant aroma.
