- 1). Unplug the weedeater if it's electric. Remove the spark plug if it's gas-powered.
- 2). Twist and remove the spool locking head or nut. If your machine has a nut, remove it with a wrench.
- 3). Twist and pull out the spool.
- 4). Remove any line still strung around the spool.
- 5). Wipe away any loose debris from the spool.
- 6). Cut the worn ends of the line if you are rewinding the line. Use the old line as a length guide to cut a new replacement line.
- 7). Insert the end of the line into the hole in the spool track. The line may be bent to hook into the hole. If your machine is a double-line trimmer, there will be two holes for two lines.
- 8). Wind the line snugly around the spool in the direction of the arrow.
- 9). Pull the line up into the notch in the edge of the spool once you get towards the end. If your machine is a double-line trimmer, there will be two notches on opposite sides of the spool for each line end. Don't leave more than 5 inches sticking out.

Insert the spool back onto the weedeater spool shaft and replace the cap or nut.
