How to Rewind a Weedeater Spool

    • 1). Unplug the weedeater if it's electric. Remove the spark plug if it's gas-powered.

    • 2). Twist and remove the spool locking head or nut. If your machine has a nut, remove it with a wrench.

    • 3). Twist and pull out the spool.

    • 4). Remove any line still strung around the spool.

    • 5). Wipe away any loose debris from the spool.

    • 6). Cut the worn ends of the line if you are rewinding the line. Use the old line as a length guide to cut a new replacement line.

    • 7). Insert the end of the line into the hole in the spool track. The line may be bent to hook into the hole. If your machine is a double-line trimmer, there will be two holes for two lines.

    • 8). Wind the line snugly around the spool in the direction of the arrow.

    • 9). Pull the line up into the notch in the edge of the spool once you get towards the end. If your machine is a double-line trimmer, there will be two notches on opposite sides of the spool for each line end. Don't leave more than 5 inches sticking out.
