- 1). Help the child create a card with the words, "I love Mommy because ...," on the front.
- 2). Encourage the child to decorate the front of the card in any way he or she desires.
- 3). Sit down with the child and have paper and a pen ready.
- 4). Ask the child why he or she loves mom. Ask whether there is anything special she does, says, wears, cooks, helps with and so forth that makes the child love her.
- 5). Write down what the child says as best as you can.
- 6). Be prepared for some funny and sweet answers such as "she helps me tie my shoes," "she gives me grape jelly on my toast" or "she asks me for a wubba-hubba."
- 7). Take the responses the child gives you, which may not be in complete sentences or may not make complete sense the way they were told to you, and translate them so that each response finishes the sentence "I love Mommy because ... ."
- 8). Print the answers on the inside of the card in a list format or type them up on a computer and paste the printed responses into the card. Older children will be able to write their reasons in the card themselves.
- 9). Add "Happy Mother's Day!" at the end of the list.

Have the child sign his or her name at the bottom of the card however the child is able to. Even a scribble will mean a lot to Mom. - 11
Record the date and year the card was made on the back cover.
