Detroit Area Walking Tours

Educational, interesting and healthy, touring Detroit on foot will get you to places that are hard to access in a bus or car. There are several tours to choose from that vary in terms of neighborhood, theme and length. To help you get started, here is a list of Detroit Area Walking Tours:

Haunted Tours at Historic Fort Wayne

Historic Fort Wayne dates back to 1845. The star-shaped fort sits on the banks of the Detroit River, where it's guarded Detroit against dangerous Canucks for 165 years. While Terri King conducted ghost tours at Historic Fort Wayne until 2008, the tours were taken over by members of Metro Paranormal Investigations in 2009. The 2010 Haunted Tour consists of a guided historical tour and self-paced ghost hunt. The tours take place on Saturday nights once a month from May to August. In the months leading up to Halloween -- September, October -- the tour runs twice a month. Tickets are $42, and dates include May 15th, June 26th, July 17th, August 28th, September 4th, September 18th, October 23rd and October 30th. More »

There are also walking tours based on different themes: Detroit's Auto Heritage, Cemetery, Architecture, and Eastern Market's Brewing History. Architectural tours on Tuesday evenings explore different styles, themes and architects.
