Moving Blankets Go To The Dogs

Sometimes dogs really are man's best friend.
Treat yours to something special when you give him a moving blanket for a bed.
Around our house, the pooches get pampered.
It started back when they were pups just separated from their mother (ours are brother and sister).
We gave them old clothing with our scent to help them become acclimated to their environment.
It seemed to soothe some of their separation anxiety as well as provide them with a comfy place to lie.
Naturally, the old sweatshirts didn't last long.
Soon they were torn and because the animals were still puppies, stained from when potty training wasn't going so well.
After awhile we were looking for a replacement.
Moving blankets were far from our minds.
We looked for pet beds that seemed large enough to accommodate the size we knew the dogs would ultimately need.
Many were prohibitively expensive, and those that weren't didn't impress us in terms of quality or durability.
We began to consider alternatives when a friend who breeds Sheltie dogs mentioned moving blankets.
It seems that moving blankets are constructed of durable 100% cotton or poly cotton blends.
In addition to the tight weave of the fabric, most moving blankets also feature binding along the edge and stitching throughout.
The stitching creates long "channels" which means the internal padding shifts very little, and it also helps resist tearing.
At our friend's recommendation, we bought a couple of moving blankets and lined the doghouse and kennel.
While the dogs seemed a little confused by the scent at first (there's an odor to the blankets, possibly a dye), it quickly goes away.
The dogs were so attracted to the comfortable blanket that they barely noticed anything.
So far they've kept their teeth away...
not hard to do since they seem to be napping all the time.
