- 1). Shut off the power to the Hayward C500 filter system at the breaker box before attempting to replace the cartridge filter.
- 2). Close off the discharge lines to the filter system to prevent the water from backing up from the pool while changing the filter.
- 3). Unfasten the drain plug at the bottom of the filter system with a pair of pliers to let the water drain out of the filter. Put the drain plug back when the water is drained.
- 4). Press the safety latch and turn the cap on the top of the filter system counterclockwise to remove it from the canister. Take the cap off and remove the cartridge filter.
- 5). Install the new cartridge filter in the canister and set the cap back on, turning it clockwise to lock it in place.
- 6). Open the manual air relief valve a couple times to prime the filter system and turn the power back on to the system at the breaker box.
