Billy Connolly, is a Scottish comedian, musician, presenter and actor. Billy Connolly is sometimes known, especially in his native Scotland, by the nickname The Big Yin. Billy Connolly was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland. Billy Connolly left school to work in the shipyards becoming a welder and joined the Territorial Army at around the same time. Billy Connolly developed an interest in folk music, eventually becoming an accomplished banjo player and a member of the band Humblebums with Gerry Rafferty. The jokes Billy Connolly told between songs eventually took over Billy Connolly's act and he became a full-time comedian. Already a big star in Scotland, Billy Connolly became a household name in the UK after appearing on "Parkinson" in the early seventies. Billy has released many recordings and videos of his concert performances over the years. Billy Connolly has expanded his repertoire to include acting, appearing in a number of television dramas and films, most recently in the USA. Connolly is married to comedian and psychologist Pamela Stephenson. The couple wed and have three children together: Daisy, Amy and Scarlett. Connolly also has two children from his first marriage, to Iris Pressagh: Jamie and Cara. Connolly and Pressagh after a sixteen-year marriage.
In the book Billy and in a December 2008 online interview he states he was sexually abused by his father William for 5 years starting when he was 10 years old. He believes this was a result of the Catholic church not allowing his father to divorce after his mother left the family. Due to this, Connolly has a "deep distrust and dislike of the Catholic church and any other organization that brainwashes people. He is an atheist.
