Hi, I'm Donna Emery from Glover Nursery in West Jordan, Utah. How do you fertilize Tristar strawberries? Well I'm just planting a new bed here and I'm using individual plants from the six-pack, at about 12 inches on center. This is very nice well amended soil. But because I've used saw dust as a soil amendment I have to be especially careful with fertilizer. I added fertilizer before I started planting but as the season goes on I'm going to want to add more of fertilizer to these strawberries. So I'm just going to do a ring around the outside. This would be a month or two into my strawberry planting. And work it in. I don't want to touch the crown or the leaves of the plant. I don't want to burn it. But I want that fertilizer available to the strawberry right away. So I put it in a circle around it. Probably another month after that I'll add some more in a circle and worked in. Always, always water after you fertilize. That's really important. And we'll monitor these, if they start going yellow they probably need more iron at least here in our very alkaline soil. I would add iron to them once or twice during the growing season. After they finish fruiting I'll fertilize again. And that will feed the root system for next season's strawberries.
