- 1). Wait 24 hours after noticing the problem if you have recently switched on the appliance. A gentle buzzing sound from the motor indicates that the appliance is cooling down. It takes at least a day to achieve safe food storage temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer after installation
- 2). Adjust the freezer compartment's thermostat, as the temperature could be set too high. Tap the "+" and "-" buttons beside the digital temperature display for the freezer until the setting reads "0." This is the temperature recommended for the best food storage results. Allow 24 hours for the change to work.
- 3). Check that the freezer door closes properly, allowing no gaps in the rubber seal through which cold air could escape. Bulky food containers sometimes prop the door open, reducing the efficiency of the appliance and causing the motor to work harder. Seal the freezer and wait a few hours to see if the noise and temperature stabilize.
- 4). Move the appliance if it is near a heat source like an oven or clothes dryer, ensuring there are a few inches of room on all sides of the refrigerator for air to circulate. Poor location may lead to increased motor activity and reduced cooling.
