Embroidered, personalized or monogrammed diaper bags are a fantastic way to show off individuality and style, and lend uniqueness to a new mom's diaper bag.
Often times, it's difficult to decide what to put on the diaper bag, however, whether to use the baby's name or initials, or the mom's name or initials.
Which one is best? I've often heard people say that it's bad to put your child's name on a bag, because it makes them more vulnerable to predators.
I thought that this made sense, until one day my daughter and I were playing at the park.
I was pushing her in the swing, catching her at the bottom of the slide, and we were having a great time.
I sat down on at a picnic table to watch her for a minute, and as I was watching, I saw a teenage boy approach her.
It was harmless, she had lost a hair clip and he was returning it to her, but he called, "Emma, you lost this!" I ran up, a little shaken, and asked him how he knew her name.
He shrugged and said "I heard you talking to her.
" It made me realize how easily people can learn my daughter's name, if she's out playing with friends and they call out her name, for example.
I realized that it wasn't enough to keep her name off of her bag, I needed to teach her that even if someone knows her name, it does not mean they are not a stranger.
I try to teach her more about strangers, rather than trying to keep strangers away from her.
From that day on, I decided having her name on a bag would make it no easier for a predator to know her name, so I needed to equip her with knowledge to be prepared for that.
If that's still a fear of yours, that does not need to stop you from getting a monogrammed diaper bag! Many moms choose to put their own name on the bag, for a variety of reasons.
For example, you may plan on having several children, and you want to use the bag over and over.
Many moms, (myself included) use the diaper bag long after their children are out of diapers as a gym bag or laptop bag.
They are typically the correct size, and they have so many pockets to keep you organized! This is a great reason to put your own name on it, rather than the child's.
If you don't want your name on it, but prefer the traditional monogram, you have a couple of options.
You can do you or your child's initials in block letters, with all of them the same size, or you can have the center letter, the initial of your last name, larger than the other two in the series.
Having your initials in a row is perfectly fine, but the traditional monogram adds a little bit of sophistication to the bag.
Regardless of what you decide to have embroidered on your diaper bag, it allows you to add your own uniqueness to your diaper bag.
You can choose from so many styles of thread color and fonts, the choices are almost limitless in how you can express your style.
Enjoy discovering all of the options when choosing a monogrammed diaper bag!
