As soon as Tarinis 60 day old begun to dribble and drool all over the place, she was thrilled. Tarini thought it meant that a tooth would pop out soon. Her babys first tooth however took its own sweet time.
While drooling is one sign that a tooth is on its way, its not the only reason for your babys excessive waterworks. For newborns, the world is a place full of yummy looking things they cant wait to put into their mouths. Putting everything in, and chewing even without teeth, makes newborns produce more saliva than they can swallow. Drooling usually starts between 2 and 4 months, but in most cases, a babys teeth dont appear until 6 to 9 months. So along with dribble, here are other signs mommies should look out for-
Teething troubles in teeny totters -
Is that a rash on my babys chin?
Your babys excessive drooling may lead to skin rashes or chapping around the mouth and on the chin. Its a good idea to try and keep the chin and mouth as dry as possible(though you will feel like youre fighting a losing battle). If the babys skin is irritated, use baby lotion or petroleum jelly to soothe it.
Looks like we have got a biter
When those first teeth start to poke out from under the gums, it is a cause of great discomfort for infants. They will often find relief in counter-pressure, also known as, biting.
Why so cranky?
Your toddler is bound to get cranky with the onset of teething. Wouldnt you be if you had little teeth pressing on your gums and poking up to the surface? Its painful enough to make anyone feel a bit off. While some babies are irritable for a few hours, others can stay in a bad mood for weeks. So its good to brace yourself for tantrums and big time tears, and pray that it doesnt last long.
