- 1). Open a Web browser and browse to the download page for Avira AntiVir Personal using the link in the Resources section of this article. Click the download link under "Linux/Solaris" and save the resulting file to the desktop.
- 2). Right-click the downloaded file, and then click "Extract Archive Here, Autodetect Subfolder." Mandriva creates a new folder and unpacks the contents of the archive in the folder. Double-click the folder to open it in a new window. Note the title at the top of the window, as it contains the version number of Avira AntiVir Personal.
- 3). Click the circular Mandriva logo in the lower-left corner of the screen. Hover the mouse pointer over "Tools," and then click "Konsole." The Mandriva terminal appears.
- 4). Type "su" and press "Enter." Type the root password for your computer and press "Enter" again. These steps elevate your login session to an administrator session, giving you permission to install software.
- 5). Type "cd Desktop" and press "Enter." Note that the word "Desktop" must be capitalized.
- 6). Type "cd antivir-workstation-pers-3.1.3.4-1" and press "Enter." If you noted a different version number in Step 2, type that version number instead.
- 7). Type "./install" and press "Enter."
- 8). Press "Enter" to view the license terms for Avira AntiVir Personal, then press the space bar to scroll through the document. Press "Y" to accept the license terms when you reach the end. Press "Enter." The utility installs the components of Avira AntiVir Personal on the computer.
- 9). Answer the questions displayed to complete the installation. The installation utility asks if you would like the software to be updated manually, at what time updates should take place, and whether you would like to install any optional components. When this process is complete, Avira AntiVir Personal is ready to use.
