- 1). Click the "Start" button in the bottom left corner of the screen. In Windows XP, click the "Run" button and type "msconfig." Click "OK." In Windows Vista and Windows 7, type "msconfig" in the search bar and press "Enter."
- 2). Click the tab labeled "Startup" on the System Configuration window that opens. This lists all of the computer's start-up programs.
- 3). Uncheck the program(s) you do not want to run at startup. If you are unsure what a program is, do not uncheck it.
- 4). Click "OK" when finished. Accept the prompt to restart the computer. When the computer starts up, a prompt to open the System Configuration Utility will appear. If everything appears fine, check the box labeled "Don't ask me on startup" and click "No".
- 1). Click "Start" and then "Control Panel." In Windows XP, click "Add/remove programs." In Windows Vista and Windows 7, click "Uninstall a program."
- 2). Navigate to the program you wish to remove once the window opens. Click on it once to highlight it. Click "Uninstall," and the program's uninstaller will start.
- 3). Follow the unistaller's prompts. Some programs ask if you want to keep certain information on the computer in case of a reinstallation. If you do not plan on using the program again, remove this as well.
