Just as important, though, the right position really can increase the odds.
Why position matters Contrary to the old wives' tales, the effect position has on which gender you conceive has nothing to do with who's "dominant" in bed.
Your lovemaking position affects the depth of penetration, which determines exactly where the sperm are deposited.
That's important because the distance to the egg and the pH level where the sperm are first placed give the advantage to either the Y-chromosome (boy) sperm or the X-chromosome (girl) sperm.
Use shallow penetration Shallow penetration lets the man deposit sperm at the entrance of the cervix.
Although it may seem a little contrary to logic, this actually gives a better chance to the slower but heartier girl sperm.
They're the long-distance swimmers, whereas the boy sperm are the sprinters that can wiggle along pretty fast at first, but can't keep up that speed all the way from the mouth of the cervix to the egg.
That means the girls win the race.
Another benefit of shallow penetration is that the entrance of the vagina is more acidic than the area closer in towards the neck of the cervix.
That acidity holds back the weaker boy sperm, but the tough girl sperm can survive.
Two good positions for shallow penetration are:
- The missionary position This is the "traditional" position with the woman lying on her back and the man on top.
Of course, there are variations on this position that allow for deeper penetration, such as the woman placing her legs over the man's shoulders, but you'll want to avoid those. - The spoon position In the most common variant of this position, the couple lie on their sides, with the woman's back against the man's chest.
If you prefer something a little more intimate, you can also do this position lying side by side facing each other.
Both are fine for shallow entry.
When a woman orgasms, her body releases substances that make the cervix more alkaline.
Avoiding orgasm will help keep you highly acidic, which will give the girl sperm a better chance of beating the boys.
To increase the acidity of your body even more and increase your chances of having the baby girl you're hoping for, make sure your diet includes food that will lower your pH level.
Position alone isn't enough Unfortunately, while recommendations for positions to have a girl are based on biological facts, there's little proof that position makes an overwhelming difference.
Healthy, natural gender selection is possible-there's plenty of proof of that-but to seriously tip the odds in favor of having a daughter, you need to religiously follow a complete system that covers all the factors of conception that affect gender, including diet and timing in relation to ovulation.
One technique increases your odds by 3%, another by 10% and so on until with all the known methods combined you can get more than a 90% chance of being able to conceive the sweet little baby girl you're dreaming of.
