- 1). Check out the difference between sanded and unsanded grout for your ceramic tile. What you choose will depend on the spaces, or grout joints, between your tiles. Sanded grout is for spaces of 1/8 inch or wider, while unsanded grout works for smaller spaces of less than 1/8 inch.
- 2). Look at the various color choices of grout for your ceramic tile. Grout is generally going to be a neutral color, such as white or gray, but many different color choices are available.
- 3). Find out more about the various types of grout that are available. Cement-based grout, for example, is stain-resistant and easy to mix and apply. Urethane grout comes premixed, which makes it even easier to apply. Urethane grout also works best for very small grout joints of 1/16 inch or smaller. Epoxy grout is the strongest type and works well with heavy ceramic tiles being applied to walls. Epoxy grout is also stain-resistant.
- 4). Mix up some samples of different grout colors you're considering to help you decide. Smear the grout onto a neutral-color surface and let it dry. Hold up your ceramic tile to the dried grout to help you decide which color matches the tile best.
