New York City is one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world and is known for its involvement in the global industries of fashion, finance, entertainment and art. MSNBC reports that approximately 47 million visitors traveled to New York City in 2008, and it expect the numbers to keep climbing each year. New York promotes a variety of visitor attractions, many of which are famous throughout the world. Some of the main attractions worth seeing in the city are the Statue of Liberty, Central Park and the Empire State Building. - The Statue of Liberty was a gift of friendship from France and has been seen as an international symbol of freedom and democracy ever since its dedication in 1886. The Statue of Liberty stands at a height of 305 feet, 6 inches and is made out of copper. Visitors to the statue are able to see inside via a glass ceiling, which contains a state of the art lighting and video system. The statue's observation deck also allows for great panoramic photos of New York City. Tickets to see the Statue of Liberty's crown must be purchased in advance from the National Park Service.

Known as New York's backyard, the park offers something for everyone. Children can enjoy more than 21 playgrounds that are scattered throughout the park or ride on the famous carousel and enjoy the popcorn and balloon vendors. There also are guided tours that explain the different flora, fauna and wildlife found throughout the park. Each day, more than 10 different walking tours that focus on various sections of the park depart from the park's information center. Sports enthusiasts can also enjoy many sporting events at the park each day, including croquet, baseball, cycling and rowing.

centralpark.com - The Empire State Building is a National Historic Landmark that opened to the public in 1931. The building hosts an observatory on the 86th floor, 1,050 feet above street level. The Empire State Building has been a famous location for such Hollywood movies as "An Affair to Remember" and "Sleepless in Seattle." Since its opening, more than 110 million visitors have toured the observatory. On the observatory deck, guests can enjoy two restaurants, a sushi bar, a coffee shop and a Hallmark greeting card store. Families can also enjoy a variety of activities in the lobby of the building that include a simulated helicopter ride and a virtual-reality movie theater.
