Urinary Leakage in Dogs

Urinary leakage in dogs can appear suddenly, gradually, or may have been with your pet since birth.
It is also a condition that can be brought about by any number of conditions including advancing age.
But whatever the cause, urinary leakage in dogs is a serious problem both for dog owners and their favorite furry canine.
Let's take a tour through the world of urinary leakage in dogs and see if we can't find a few answers to help you better evaluate your particular situation.
Problems focusing on the storage of urine in dogs are recognized by out of the ordinary urinary leakage.
The causes bladder muscle relaxation issues, damage or injury to the urethra, damage or injury to other parts of the urinary tract (bladder etc.
), and bladder overflow.
There are two basic types of urinary leakage in dogs, those that the animal is conscious of and those of which they aren't aware.
The conscious version is commonly referred to as urge incontinence.
The most common cause of urge incontinence is irritation to the bladder muscle that forces urine to be leaked.
Often this is a case of bladder inflammation.
Another lesser cause would be unusually low levels of sex hormones in neutered dogs.
This type of leakage is known in veterinary terms as hormonal responsive urethral incompetence, and common occurs in female dogs.
Problems with the urethral sphincter (the muscle that control urine flow into the urethra) can also be the culprit with this type of urinary leakage in dogs.
Leakage of urine in dogs that results from a birth defect will become obvious early on and is likely due to malformation of the urinary tract or birth defects.
One last, but not so obvious cause would partial blockage of the urethra.
This type of blockage will act like a dam, causing urine to back up and ultimately overflow, leading to dribbling from the urethra.
There may be other causes but we have covered the basics.
As far as treatments there are no easy answers.
If your dog is a female with hormonal leakage your veterinarian will likely suggest a synthetic hormone such as Diethylstilbestrol or Ephedrine.
Another option worth considering for urinary leakage in dogs is homeopathy.
Homeopathic natural tonics contain both antiseptic and urinary tract conditioning components which can be used both as a stand alone treatment and as a compliment to other more conventional medications.
Your next step? Take this information and use it as a guide to help you find either/or a conventional or homeopathic remedy to cure your dog's urinary incontinence/leakage.
Homeopathy is very effective in getting rid of the symptoms of urinary leakage in dogs and getting to the root of its cause so your dog can heal permanently.
