Preventing Your Dog From Chewing Stuff

Your dog may look at you innocently with his big brown eyes yet when you are not watching, he turns into a chewing monster gnawing at everything in sight from furniture to cushion and your remote control.
A dog may chew for the flavour (maybe that rosewood chair does taste good after all) and chewing gives them something to do, much like human chewing gum or smoking.
It gives us some taste and something to occupy ourselves with.
In a way, it is comforting for them to be able to chew on things.
If you have a puppy, the tendency to chew is even greater.
They are exploring around and chewing is inevitable.
You can get your dog some toys but there is not guarantee that she will not target your other items.
She may even get greedy and want something she couldn't have.
The trick here is to rotate her toys so she get fresh ones every now and then.
It is advisable for dog owners to dog-proof her home, like you would have if you have a toddler learning to walk.
Keep away things that may harm your dog, or food or things you want to keep them from chewing, especially expensive items.
Remember your dog can be very persistent to reach for food and treats and they will work their way around it.
Anyhow, you absolutely have to keep an eye on her and catch her in action before she start to chew on illegal items.
Reprimand her on the spot and she will gradually know what to chew and what not to chew.
Due to the fact that your house contains too many illegal items for them to target, this approach may take a bit of time.
It is impossible to monitor her all the time so use a bitter spray on the items she usually target.
The bitterness will leave a bad experience and she will never want to chew on that item anymore.
Whichever way you choose, training a dog requires patience and time and lots of repetition.
