- Drive rivets may be used to attach wall boards or wood panels, or to accomplish otherwise awkward or difficult fastening jobs with tubes, extrusions or odd-shaped housings. For example, Gabriel used drive rivets to attach a metal bracket to the metal mast of a small sailboat.
- According to the Hanson Rivet and Supply Company, drive rivets come in both aluminum and steel versions. Sizes range from 1/8-inch to 3/8-inch in diameter and 5/32-inch to 1 and 1/4-inches in length. The universal and brazier rivet heads are rounded. The countersunk head is designed to sit just below the finished surface.
- Drive rivets can be attached either with a common hammer or a lightweight pneumatic hammer. While they are meant to be tamper-resistant and permanent, they can be removed. According to the Southco Rivet Company, the pin must be driven completely through the rivet, and then the housing pried up and either drilled off or sheared off.
