First, understand that the "F" in "FG Tour M3" stands for "feel." These clubs are aimed at "feel" golfers, which is to say, as Wilson Staff does, "the low-handicap player who relies on impact feedback and values precision and shot-shaping ability." (The FG Tour M3 clubs are counterparts to the company's D100 line, released earlier, that targets higher-handicap golfers focused on distance.)
The irons are pictured on the following page. But the driver, fairway woods and hybrids in the FG Tour M3 line all use Wilson Staff's "Multi Fit System" that makes the clubs adjustable for loft and weight. There are three interchangeable sole weights: 7 gram (which is what the clubs come installed with), 11 grams and 3 grams. In addition, there are six adjustable hosel settings.
- Wilson Staff FG Tour M3 Driver: This is Wilson Staff's first adjustable driver. It comes with an initial loft of 9.5 degrees, but can be adjusted (through the hosel settings) from 8.5 to 11.5 degrees in half-degree increments. The golfer can use the loft and sole weight options to adjust trajectory.
The pear-shaped driver has a deep face but a smaller footprint, variable face thickness, and a lighter crown. The clubhead (like all the clubs in the FG Tour M3 line) has a black PVD finish. Stock shafts are the Aldila RIP Phenom 50 or Aldila RIP Phenom NL 60; the MAP will be $349.99. - Wilson Staff FG Tour M3 Fairway Woods: Three fairway woods are available with initial lofts of 13.5, 15 and 17 degrees. But with the six hosel settings, the loft can be adjusted from 12.5 to 19 degrees over the range of the three clubs, in increments of a half-degree. Stock shaft is Aldila RIP Phenom 65 and the MAP will be $219.99 per club.
- Wilson Staff FG Tour M3 Hybrids: The M3 hybrids include clubs with initial lofts of 17, 21 and 23 degrees; and the lie angles can be adjusted 2 degrees upright. Stock shaft is the Aldila RIP Phenom 85 and MAP is $199.99 per club.
The Wilson Staff FG Tour M3 irons are forged, players' irons, designed to deliver workability but with more forgiveness than expected.
The M3 irons have a progressive cavity design with thin toplines; a thinner cavity in the long irons to increase ball speeds, but a thicker blade in the short irons for more control and workability in the scoring clubs.
Mass is moved to the heel and toe areas in the long irons, boosting MOI for more forgiveness; but the short irons are more uniform in size across the blade.
The 8620 carbon steel clubheads have a matte black PVD finish. Stock shafts are the Aldila RIP Phenom 95 and Dynamic Gold XP steel. The MAP for 4-GW sets will be $899.99 with graphite shafts or $799.99 with steel shafts.
And as a reminder, all the Wilson Staff FG Tour M3 clubs hit retail in January 2014. More info can be found on WilsonStaff.com as the product launch draws near.
