Pisciotta is an historic medieval town set in the hills of the national park of Cilento south of Salerno, surrounded by centuries old olive groves some a thousand years old.
This beautiful town has managed to remain the same for the last 200 years with old houses, narrow streets, the traditional Piazza with live music in the evenings, Restaurants with outstanding views of the Mediterranean and the surrounding hillsides offer delicious traditional food to the highest standard.
All the produce is local from the olive oil, vegetables and fish including the famous 'Menaica Anchovies' brought in from Marina di Pisciotta 5 minutes down the road.
The Menaica anchovies are renowned in Italy for their distinct flavour and the method they are caught.
The fishermen use a special net called Menaica, it has large meshes and it is left adrift at night, the larger anchovies come to the surface of the water looking for heat and so get caught in the net.
These fish have a unique flavour sort after by many Italians.
