Now Playing Magazine had the opportunity to talk to Sam Raimi while he was promoting the DVD release of "The Grudge," starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and Jason Behr. While the interview was supposed to focus on "The Grudge," Now Playing did get a few Spidey-related questions in.
Though the responses from Raimi were guarded, he did let slip a few interesting facts including how he and the "Spider-Man" behind-the-scenes crew decide on which villains will appear in the films.
Prompted on the possibility of Venom being Spider-Man's next foe, Raimi didn't confirm or deny but instead revealed how each film's villain is chosen. "Absolutely we wanted to have a villain not only who would fulfill the character needs but somebody who could entertain the audience on a visceral level and provide great visuals, something we haven?t seen before, and create a real challenge and great foe for Spider-Man and his unique spidery, spider-like powers.?
Raimi also confirmed Alvin Sargent is currently working on the "Spider-Man 3" screenplay.
