A lot of injuries occur from punching a bag, a pair of pads or whatever it is you feel like venting your anger upon.
This is usually caused by not using proper punching techniques.
There is a lot of misconceptions about how to throw the proper punch.
Myth #1 It's enough that I just make a ball (or a rock) with my fist and whack as hard as I can.
Truth Making your hand into a fist does not necessarily mean that it will be as hard as a rock and that you will be using the proper punching technique.
Whacking as hard as you can is a sure way to injure your hands and wrists.
Myth #2 It does not matter whether your fist hits the target in a vertical or horizontal position.
Truth Holding your fist in a vertical position meant that it will produce less power.
Because twisting the wrist and forearm counterclockwise, into a horizontal position, creates a torque.
In essence, you are going to screw your target.
Myth #3 I will create more damage the faster I snap my punches.
Truth I know some of you think about the Law of Inertia can be applied to punching.
Yes and no, for example, a bullet can only do some damage when fired off a gun because of its acceleration that it travels so fast.
But that doesn't mean that the faster you punch the bigger the damage.
This is only true when you do not snap your punches, you HAVE to follow through.
Same with the bullet, it travels in a straight line without "pulling back" like a snap as it follows through its target.
My coach always asks me to imagine punching a hole through the pads or bag.
