The last stretch of my wife's term has been stressful for me.
Doctor's visit, errands here, there and everywhere.
I wasn't able to exercise because of my time schedule and preparations for the coming baby.
By the time we get home from work, eat dinner and tucking in the kids to sleep I have been feeling weird and dizzy all the time.
I have gained weight and I stopped biking and running.
I looked at my blood pressure and true enough my diastolic was pretty high.
With my 3rd baby coming and already way past my prime I decided to change my food intake.
I'm a fan of Frito Lays, Nachos, double cheese burgers, roasted chicken, PASTA!!!! I love buffet restaurants and pizza places.
So do you get my drift? Can you imagine how big I am? From 202 lbs I ballooned up to 220 lbs.
Enough said! I decided to change my menu into something that is simply not greasy and starchy.
I took out the chips, chocolates, sodas and other kinds of sweets.
I shied away from white carbohydrates such as white bread, pasta and rice.
Here's my meal schedule: Monday- Saturday breakfast - ice coffee brunch - chicken breast, corn/carrots snacks - milk tea dinner - oatmeal I alternate the chicken with hardboiled egg whites on Tuesdays and lean beef on Wednesdays.
Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays is just a repeat of the meal schedule.
But on Sundays I treat myself for a regular eating day.
Meaning, I can eat anything I want but in moderation.
I just eat until I reach my fill.
I call my meal schedule PRISONER'S diet.
The first three weeks was pure torture for me, since my wife was pregnant she can eat anything that she wanted.
For me, I had to stick to my plan.
I was grumpy all the time.
But the grump was just temporary.
My wife suddenly realized that I was able to tuck my shirt inside my pants.
There was something different with my tummy bulge.
I mean, it was there alright but It wasn't as big three weeks prior.
My head started to feel better and my blood pressure started to normalize.
When I took my wife for a check up I stood on the scale without anybody looking.
I was 9 lbs lighter.
I didn't tell my wife then because I never believed the scale.
I tried a different scale on a different place and still I was 9 lbs lighter.
I got motivated and looked forward in continuing my PRISONER'S DIET.
I shared this diet plan to my Mom who is also overweight.
She followed and modified a few steps, such as instead of lean beef she changed it to fish.
It worked for her as well.
Now the baby is out, it's a girl by the way, things are starting to go back to the way it was.
I will start biking once again and hopefully try out a weight lifting plan.
I never knew it will turn out this way.
My plan trickled down to my two young boys.
Instead of cakes and ice cream for dessert we all eat fruits such as mango, bananas and papayas after each meal.
In realization, my Prisoner's diet was just a tool for my lifestyle change.
It wouldn't be done without WILL POWER.
