- 1). Insert two safety pins on each shoulder of your jacket or coat. Insert one safety pin on the outside of each shoulder and one on the inside of each shoulder. The epaulets will rest on these pins.
- 2). Use a measuring tape to measure the length and width of the shoulder area between the safety pins on each shoulder. Use a piece of chalk and ruler to mark out your epaulets on a piece of fabric the same color as your jacket or coat. Use the same width but double the length measured for each epaulet.
- 3). Cut out the two epaulets from the fabric using a pair of scissors. Slide the epaulets through the two safety pins on each shoulder. Fold the extra length of the epaulet over, bringing each end together on the inside part of each shoulder. The epaulets should sit perfectly between the two pins on each shoulder.
- 4). Sew the ends of each piece of fabric together using a needle and thread. This will secure the epaulets in place over the safety pins.
