Founded in 1948 and located in Houston's thriving Museum District, the Contemporary Arts Museum showcases new art by way of exhibits, lectures, educational programs and events. It's mantra speaks volumes: Always fresh, always free. Exhibits and ongoing events include:
Hand+Made: The Performative Impulse in Art and Craft: integration of live performances, photography, sculpture and environment exemplifying the expanding boundaries of craft in contemporary art.
Perspectives 171: artist Jennifer West blends filmmaking, performance and painting in this innovative installation.
Steel Lounge Underground: monthly museum social featuring music, art and cocktails in an informal environment. Takes place the last Friday of every month.
