How to Make Kusudama Flowers

    • 1). Place one piece of origami paper---colored side facing down---on a flat surface, with one corner facing you. If you choose, you can use double-sided paper for a colorful flower.

    • 2). Fold the bottom corner up to the top, forming a triangle.

    • 3). Fold the left and right corners of the triangle upward to meet the top corner, forming a small square. Crease well.

    • 4). Take the flaps you just folded. Do not undo the creases you made in Step 3. Fold each outward to form a triangle on each side of the square so that the folded edges align with the edges of the square.

    • 5). Take each flap you folded in Step 4 and open them up. Flatten them along the crease you just made, forming a kite shape pointing diagonally outward on each side.

    • 6). Fold the top triangle of each kite-shaped flap so that they align with the edges of the model. Crease well. The flaps are now in a triangle shape.

    • 7). Fold each triangle flap inward half along its center crease.

    • 8). Take the left and right sides of the model and bring the two top triangles together, forming a curved shaped at the top of the model. Glue the top triangle together to complete the first petal. You'll have three small petals inside.

    • 9). Repeat Steps 1 through 8 with the remaining sheets of origami paper to create four more petals. Once all the petals are complete, glue them all together along their front edges to form the Kusudama flower.
