From Waikiki To Makapu'u

  Drive southeast on Kalakaua Avenue. You will pass the zoo and Kapiolani Park as you drive out of Waikiki.
  
  
• 2). Turn right onto Diamond Head Road. Follow signs to turn left onto Hawaii Highway 72, also known as the Kalanianaole Highway. As you drive east, you will see Hanauma Bay, Sandy Beach Park and Hawaii Kai Golf Course,
  
  
• 3). Look for the Lighthouse Trail entrance on the right, about one-half mile past the golf course. The trip will take you about 25 minutes.
  
  

From Kaneohe on the North Shore To Makapu'u

• 1). Drive southeast on Hawaii Highway 72.
  
  
• 2). Look for landmark signs along the way: Kailua, Waimanalo, and Makapu'u Beach Park.
  
  
• 3). Continue uphill toward Makapu'u Head. The road to the trail head parking area will be a sharp turn to the left. The drive time is about 25 minutes.
