- 1). Cover the entire exterior wall with house wrap to act as a moisture barrier. Roll out the house wrap beginning at a corner of the house and working around the entire outside. Staple it to the sheathing underneath to secure it to the house and continue until the entire outside is covered.
- 2). Locate all of the studs along the outside of the house with a stud finder. Snap a chalk line up the center of each stud. This is where the siding will be nailed.
- 3). Install corner trim up each corner of the house. Hammer the trim in place with 1 1/2-inch siding nails spaced out every 6 inches on each trim piece.
- 4). Lay out the first piece of cement siding horizontally across the bottom of the house. Leave a gap of 6 inches at the bottom. Butt the first piece up to the corner and insert 1 1/2-inch siding nails into the studs marked by the chalk lines. Insert two nails into each stud and continue down the siding until the first piece is installed.
- 5). Butt the second piece up to the first and install it in the same manner. Continue down the first row until you reach the end of the first side. Cut the siding to size with a circular saw if necessary.
- 6). Set the first piece of the second row over the first row and overlap it by 1-1/4 inches. Install the second row and all of the remaining rows the same way. Continue around each side of the house, cutting the end pieces to fit. Inspect the siding, once complete, to make sure there are no nails sticking out.
