- Walking instead of running is one of the most important safety rules in a school, and it is a sign you might see quite often. Explain the reasons why students shouldn't run inside the school--including wet floors, running into others by accident, and running into walls and doors which might injure students. Show the students a video or pictures of what might happen when they run inside the school.
- Scissor safety is another safety sign often seen in schools. Students need to learn how to handle scissors correctly. Give a demonstration about how to handle scissors, how to hand them to someone else and how to use them. Every age group can benefit from a refresher lesson in scissor safety. Talk with the students about why it is important to handle scissors correctly.
- Children are often taught about keeping themselves safe by not speaking to strangers and not going with strangers when they are outdoors. However, in an unsure and unsafe world, it is important for students to be vigilant when it comes to keeping intruders out of schools. Talk about the reasons that doors and windows are locked from the inside during the school day, and talk about the importance of students reporting anything suspicious to teachers right away.
