Years ago when satellite TV did not exist, Americans were much less informed about the news that was occurring all over the world. If something urgent happened during the day, people had to wait for a newspaper to come out the following day before they could read about the event and inform themselves about what was happening. That also meant that if a disaster was going to strike a certain area, there was no easy way to get the news out quickly to warn everyone so they could take the proper precautions to protect themselves. Fortunately, the radio soon replaced newspapers, and every American family that had a radio in their living room could sit down together at the end of the day to learn about important events that had taken place. Of course radio broadcasts could also be interrupted to talk about breaking news, such as impending disasters that people needed to try to avoid, but radio could also be used for entertainment purposes as well. The radio was an important step up from newspapers, but a more important technology soon came along.
Television quickly came along and replaced the importance of the radio. Instead of sitting around radios together, families would all gather around their television sets every night. Basic cable television service gave families the ability to choose from three or four different channels that provided both important news and entertainment as well. This was a huge step up from radio technology because families could now watch pictures as well as listen. If poor weather struck an area though, both the radio and television services might not function as well as they should or they might go out completely. Although cable television was a big step up from previous media forms, it eventually gave way to satellite TV, which has proven to be the best media format for several years.
Satellite TV surpasses cable for many reasons. Most importantly, there are hundreds of different channels available all day, every day on satellite TV. Instead of having just a few basic channels, viewers can choose from a massive variety of channels. In today's world, having that much choice is not just a luxury, but it is a necessity for anyone who wants to stay informed about what is happening around the world. There are all kinds of different news channels available with this new service, so people can choose where, when and how they want to receive their news. Some news shows offer more conservative viewpoints, while others provide more liberal commentaries. Many people find that the key to staying as informed as possible is to watch a little bit of both kinds of viewpoints. In today's world, many Americans are working so hard that they don't have a lot of time to sit down and read a paper, but they do have time to sit down and watch the news while they eat a meal. Fortunately, satellite TV has revolutionized the way people interact with the media and made it much easier for everyone to stay informed about the news.
